Come a few minutes early to have a snack and socialize (doors will open at 3:10pm).  The presentations will start on time with SURS going first from 3:30-4:30 and Social Security following for another hour.  Both of these presentations are aimed specifically at adjuncts so if you want to know more about SURS/SSA or are getting ready for retirement and want to know how GPO/WEP (Government Pension Offset/Windfall Elimination Provision) is going to effect you, please come even if you haven’t RSVP’d!  There will be time for QA.  These presentations are being sponsored by HCAFA and the Harper College Human Resources Department.

Newsletter

Keep an eye on your mailboxes!  You should be getting a new newsletter sometime this week!  Can’t wait?  You can find it right here: Adjunct Advocate April 2010

Save the Date!

The HCAFA BBQ II will be on July 10 from 11-1 at the Plum Grove Reservoir which is the little park/lake area right across from Avante/J building.  Like last year’s BBQ, we’ll have hot dogs, brats, burgers, and veggie burgers for the non-meat eaters.  Bring the family!  There will be games, conversation, and hopefully great weather like last year!

Know Your Rights!

If you are in any meeting and are feeling like you are being threatened with disciplinary measures, termination, or sanctions of any kind, please invoke your Weingarten Rights!  Weingarten says that you have a right to have a union representative present.  Here is an example of Weingarten language:

WEINGARTEN RIGHTS

If this discussion could in any way lead to my being disciplined or terminated, or affect my personal working conditions, I respectfully request that my Association representative be present at the meeting.  Without representation, I choose not to answer any questions.

Good Time Had By All!

The Spring Tea was a rousing success!  There was tea, scones, cucumber sandwiches, as well as laughs, answered questions, and story trading.  Couldn’t make it?  Our next event will be Summer BBQ II!  Details are yet to be determined but keep an eye on the website, facebook, and the newsletter as we’ll have info soon!

Don’t Forget!

This Wednesday (4/7) from 2-4 in A238 will be the Spring Tea!  Come by for a cuppa!  Ask questions!  Chill out between classes!
