Help Launch the New Evaluation Program: Volunteer to Be a Peer Instructor

Mike Bates, Associate Dean of CAFE, sent out this notice to all adjuncts.  HCAFA urges adjuncts to volunteer to be peer instructors.

This semester CAFE is piloting an alternative evaluation process that provides adjunct faculty with the option to choose from three methods of evaluation.  One of these methods, Reverse Peer Observation, involves the adjunct faculty member attending one hour of a peer instructor’s class and reflecting on what could potentially be implemented in his or her own class.

If you are interested in sharing your talents with your colleagues as a Peer Instructor, please provide your contact information and availability on this Peer Instructor Volunteer Web Form.

How will I know when an adjunct faculty member is coming to visit my class?

A CAFE staff member will contact you with a proposed date/time at least a week in advance.  If that date/time does not work, simply suggest another.

Will I definitely be matched with an adjunct faculty member?

Availability and the number of adjunct faculty who select this evaluation option may prevent every peer instructor who volunteers from being matched with an adjunct faculty member this Fall.

Will my participation as a peer instructor have any impact on my own evaluation

No, not at all.  Adjunct faculty who visit your class are asked to identify positive instructional practices and reflect on what might be implemented in their own classrooms.  You can learn more about the process and forms under Option 2: Reverse Peer Observation on the CAFE Evaluations Page.

 Warm regards,
