The Illinois Education Association (IEA) will be having its Representative Assembly (RA) March 10–12, 2011 at the Hyatt in Rosemont, IL. All hotel and food expenses will be reimbursed while at the RA.
The HCAFA will be electing 2 delegates at the end of November to represent them at this assembly. Items that are on the agenda will be the 2011-2012 budget, legislation, general running of the IEA, meeting elected officials, etc. This is an opportunity to meet other higher education delegates and work with them. This is a short-term commitment of your time to our union. In either January or February, 2 evening meetings have to be attended. Each meeting is only a couple hours, one with our region to meet the other delegates from our region, and the other is a budget hearing to hear what is being proposed for the next year and to share with our members. The only other commitment is attendance at the RA followed by a verbal or written report afterwards to the executive committee and membership about what was decided at the RA.
Our union needs the involvement of its members. Many feel they do not have a lot of time to commit; this is the perfect opportunity on a short time basis. We are there when you need us; will you be there for the union when we need your involvement? If you are interested in volunteering to be a delegate, please contact any member of the executive committee. This is a great opportunity to see how the union represents your interests and how it works.
